Here Is How To Paint Over Tile!
Many homeowners ask the question of how to paint over the tile. In fact, if you have inherited an outdated bathroom or kitchen, there is no other option to improve the appearance of the space than painting the tiles. It is a cost-effective solution compared to installing new tiles in the bathroom or kitchen. But there are many things that you need to consider before painting over tiles. This article provides an answer to the question of how to paint over the tile.
Today, there are tile paints that are waterproof and self-undercoating – which means you can cover up unfortunate tile choices really easy. In fact, painting the tiles is so much quicker and cost-effective than retiling the space. These paints come in a wide range of colors for you to choose from. Cleaning the tiles is very important before you paint them. Make sure to clean the tiles with a hot detergent solution, rinse with clean water, and dry the surface properly. Sometimes, you may have to use a fungicide and a limescale remover to wash the tiles.
Lightly sand the tiles with a 180-220 grit sandpaper to reduce the gloss off the surface. If you have an orbital sander, you can do a better and faster job than hand sanding the surface. Next, you should wipe out the surface with a damp cloth to remove any dust on it. Make sure you give the surface some time to dry before painting it.
You should paint the tiles and grout using a foam roller or small brush. In case the lines require redefining, you can use a grout pen for such a purpose. There are two painting options for tiles such as epoxy paint and latex paint. If you choose a latex paint, you should first apply two coats of a good bonding primer on the tiles. Choose a primer that is specially made to adhere to tiles. Allow the primer to dry for the recommended time. Apply two coats of latex paint over the primer.
On the other hand, if you choose to paint the tiles with an epoxy paint, you need to apply two coats of a 2-part epoxy paint that is made for tiles. You have to allow the surface to dry for the recommended period before using the space.
